Nalala Tree Foundation is a young, Indigenous women-led grassroots organization advancing climate justice, environmental restoration, and sustainable livelihoods for Indigenous communities in Kenya. Founded and led by Indigenous Maasai women, the Foundation was born from lived experience — the realities of land dispossession, climate-induced livestock loss, gender inequality, and cultural marginalization. Operating at the intersection of environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and social empowerment, Nalala Tree Foundation ensures that Maasai women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples are not merely beneficiaries, but leaders in shaping solutions for their land, culture, and future. We believe that climate justice begins with land justice, and that sustainable development must respect Indigenous knowledge systems, community governance structures, and women’s leadership.
we are dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and fostering a greener future for all. Our organization is driven by a passionate mission to create positive change through tree planting, climate change education, and advocacy for environmental conservation.
To advance climate justice, protect Indigenous land rights, restore ecosystems, and strengthen sustainable livelihoods through women-led, community-driven solutions grounded in Indigenous knowledge.
A just and resilient society where Indigenous communities, especially women and youth, sustainably manage their lands, preserve their culture, and thrive in the face of climate change.
Nalala Tree Foundation, in partnership with the International Lawyers Project (ILP), proudly stands with our Maasai Indigenous communities from Narok, Kajiado, and parts of Nakuru County, including our vibrant Maa families from Olkaria. As global attention increasingly turns toward Carbon Credit projects on Indigenous lands, we are empowering our communities through knowledge, awareness, and action — strengthening their understanding of Human and Land Rights, and protecting their livelihoods, culture, and future. This training goes beyond learning it’s a movement for justice, empowerment, and meaningful participation, ensuring that Maasai voices lead in shaping decisions that impact their land and destiny
We advocate against land grabbing and unlawful evictions, engage in policy to strengthen community land governance, promote fair and transparent land decision-making processes, and support women’s land ownership and inheritance rights to ensure justice and equality.
We promote tree planting and ecosystem rehabilitation, restore grasslands in pastoral landscapes, raise community conservation awareness, and support peaceful coexistence between wildlife and pastoralist communities.
Educating communities on climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
We support community-led climate resilience initiatives, document and preserve Indigenous knowledge, promote drought response and adaptive pastoralism strategies, and advocate for the inclusion of Indigenous voices in climate policy at local and global levels.
